Workers’ Comp

You’ve probably heard the term ‘workers’ compensation’ thrown around throughout your life. Whether you are business that is shopping for workers’ compensation insurance or you are an employee looking for the reparations that you need, if you have any part in the business world it is important that you understand what workers’ compensation is and how it works.

First, it is important to understand that this form of insurance will provide a wage replacement and, often times, medical benefits to employees that are injured on the job. In return for this compensation, the employee relinquishes his or her right to sue the employer for negligence.

Second, you should be sure that you understand the workers’ compensation insurance policy that your employer provides.  You should understand what exactly qualifies you for workers’ compensation and what is required to prove that you are properly qualified.

Third, if you are contractor, you will want to check with your state to figure out whether you need to provide this type of insurance for yourself.  Often times, states will require that self-employed individuals find a way to pay for their own workers’ compensation insurance. This way, should they get hurt on the job, they can have the money that they need to continue to function properly.

Whether you are signing for a new job, renewing your insurance policy or simply reviewing your insurance policy, you should be sure that you have the coverage you need. This way, you can be sure that injuries in the work place are taken care of quickly and effectively.
