Going Green for St. Patrick’s Day
Are you wearing green this St. Patrick’s Day? If you’re not, you could be pinched, and not in the traditional way that school kids do. Every day we neglect to take part in protecting our environment at home, we push it one more step to failure. In the day that failure actually happens, we’ll be in quite the pinch ourselves as we regret not acting differently when we still had a chance. St. Patrick’s Day is your chance to wear green every day from here on out. Here are a few ideas to help you do that.
Replace an inefficient heating system and water heaters
This is easy to do and will save you money in the long run and preserve the environment for future generations. Find a contractor that can give you the most efficient heater and replace your old one quickly. The same stands true for the heater’s next door neighbor, the water heater.
Improve Insulation
One of the best ways to avoid having to use that heater often is to make sure the cold doesn’t have as much of an opportunity to penetrate to your home. A complete, and proper covering of insulation will help your house keep out the cold naturally, meaning that your heater doesn’t have to turn on as often.
Seal up your windows
In another effort to keep out the outside temperatures, make sure you take care of drafts from your windows. As your house settles, cracks and problems often appear around the windows as the base shifts. Those cracks let in the cold or hot from the outdoors. Caulking those up will keep them out a little longer, saving you money every day.
Replace inefficient doors and windows
Newer technology means better insulated doors and windows. Replacing our old ones help ensure the outside temperature stays outside, while preserving your inside environment.
In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day this year, consider doing your part to go green inside your home. Encourage your friends and family to do it too. You’ll save yourself a pinch or two in the future.
