Hurricane season is upon us.  With hurricanes and tropical storms threatening our coastlines, it is important to understand what you and your household can do to prepare.  Being prepared for a hurricane can make all of the difference.  You may be able to save your life, save the life of a loved one or even save your home when you take time to prepare yourself.

Preparation should be made long before the hurricane starts knocking down your door.  Making these preparations as soon as possible will ensure that you have the materials that you need to be ready for the storm.  If you wait until the last minute, you may find that every store is sold out of the emergency supplies you desperately need.

You should be sure that you have…

  • A 3-day supply of water consisting of at least one gallon per person, per day
  • A 3-day supply of non-perishable and easy to prepare food
  • A flashlight
  • A battery-powered or hand-crank radio
  • Extra batteries
  • First Aid Kit
  • Medication and medical items for anyone that needs them in your household
  • An extra cell phone with a charger

If you have these supplies, you may be able to rest easier when a hurricane blows into your town.  These supplies can help you survive if you are trapped and ensure that you are able to make it until help arrives. Make sure the safety supplies are stored away somewhere safe, so you are able to access the supplies when you need them.
